FEDEMAC and FIDI Global Alliance announce sustainability reporting tool collaboration

In a landmark collaboration announced at the 2025 Young Movers Conference in Warsaw, FEDEMAC and FIDI Global Alliance have joined forces to launch a new sustainability reporting initiative tailored specifically for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the moving industry.

The initiative aims to make sustainability reporting more accessible for SMEs while also driving greater standardisation in how sustainability efforts are measured and reported across the moving and relocation industry. This comes at a critical time, as evolving European legislation is setting new benchmarks in corporate sustainability that are likely to influence international standards.

The initiative addresses the growing pressure on SMEs to report their sustainability efforts, including carbon footprint assessments, which can be both complex and costly. Recognising that many SMEs lack the necessary resources and expertise, FEDEMAC and FIDI are collaborating to provide practical tools and frameworks to support their members.

In April 2024, FIDI launched a bespoke carbon calculation platform in partnership with Worldfavor, designed to meet the specific needs of the relocation industry. This platform has gained significant traction, with EuRA adopting it for their members as of early 2025. In response to the growing demand from its members, FEDEMAC has partnered with Belgian sustainability consultancy The Ecological Entrepreneur to develop a reporting tool aligned with the EU’s Voluntary Standard for non-listed micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises (VSME). This initiative complements the broader industry push for accessible and standardised sustainability solutions. The project received unanimous approval from the FEDEMAC Board during its General Assembly in Warsaw on 9 April 2025.

In the spirit of industry collaboration, FIDI will provide access to its carbon calculation platform to support the carbon assessment component of the reporting. In return, FIDI members will gain access to the CSRD-aligned reporting template developed by FEDEMAC and The Ecological Entrepreneur. The integrated reporting platform is scheduled for launch in September 2025.

The platform, built around the (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) CSRD Voluntary Standard for SMEs (VSME), offers a sector-specific solution to a shared challenge. While every company is different, moving businesses face similar sustainability issues – making a common approach both logical and efficient. The collaboration between FEDEMAC and FIDI provides moving companies with a standardised, validated reporting template that reduces administrative burden, incorporates sector-wide expertise, and enables benchmarking. With due diligence and materiality already addressed, companies can focus on action rather than process. A consistent reporting format also strengthens their response to growing stakeholder demands. Designed for ease of use, the tool supports year-on-year progress – helping SMEs advance sustainability reporting without the high cost of external consultancy.

‘Our members need simple, effective tools to meet growing sustainability demands,’ said Bertil Durieux, Secretary General of FEDEMAC. ‘This platform responds directly to that need, helping moving companies report their efforts without the complexity or cost that often holds them back.’

‘This partnership shows the power of collaboration,’ added Jesse van Sas, Secretary General of FIDI Global Alliance. ‘By aligning our tools and approaches, we’re helping members while moving the industry towards a shared standard. It’s a clear signal that collaboration, not competition, will drive meaningful progress on complex topics like sustainability.’

Sebastiaan De Block, CEO of The Ecological Entrepreneur, said: ‘We strongly believe that sustainability for SMEs should be tangible and practical. By addressing sustainability at a sectoral level, companies get concrete tools to work on this, whilst the sector can also align strategies and its overall approach for sustainability.’

This joint initiative underscores the strong relationship between FEDEMAC and FIDI and highlights the importance of sustainability in the moving industry. It also demonstrates the critical role industry associations play in developing practical solutions for their members, emphasising the value of collaboration and unified approaches to complex challenges.

More information about this joint sustainability reporting initiative will be made available soon. Any queries should be directed to FEDEMAC or FIDI directly.
