F IDI AC A D E M Y Fantastic year for FIDIs acclaimed Academy With the FIDI Academys in-person programme returning to centre stage this year, staff and managers from across the industry joined sold-out EiM, LiM and MiM2 seminars. We hear from some of the attendees and trainers about the benefits the courses have brought to their businesses and themselves Leaders in Moving (LiM) Pauline Collins, Voerman Group Wesley Thom One Moving & Logistics Enrique Lpez, Hasenkamp Relocation Pauline Collins, Supply Chain Manager, Voerman Group, was a student on the LiM this year. She says: The success of the course is dependent on proactive participation from all the students. You need to be willing to share your knowledge, leave your company brand at the door, and be generous and supportive with feedback. While learning and knowledge are key parts of the attendees career development, for many particularly those on the Essentials in Moving (EiM) course the Academy also provides a glimpse of the power of networking in our industry, says Collins. It opens your eyes to the possibility that the moving industry can be a career offering a variety of roles and opportunities, she adds. The course gave Collins practical tips to take back into her job. The support and advice I received gave me clarity on the direction I should take with my case-study topic and I have already incorporated it into my implementation plan for the benefit of my business. The experience has inspired her and she has now joined the Academy as a Trainer. I am passionate about our industry and want to share that with the future generation of movers. Pauline Collins, Voerman Group Masters in Moving and Mobility (MiM2) Ivana Hladilo, Gosselin Alice Doucy, Bournes Customer Service Manager Ivana Hladilo took part in the MiM2 on the recommendation of her manager at Gosselin, who had previously attended the course. The training was even better than I expected, she says. It was very well structured, covering many industry topics, and showed that a hardworking environment can also be fun. We covered many different and relevant topics. However, as a customer service manager I found those relating to people management particularly valuable, with role-play exercises that helped us navigate challenging discussions with our teams, including a step-by-step method for having these conversations from key points to address and timing. This structured approach will help me manage my team. Ivana Hladilo, Gosselin The FIDI LiM course gives professionals the opportunity to learn from experts and network with others in the field. It has helped my business to improve its efficiency and productivity, reduce costs and improve customer service, says Wesley Thom. We truly believe in continuous training for management and staff, but also in FIDIs target to grow professionalism in our industry, Lpez says. I strongly encourage every business to do this they will have a fast return on their investment. The LiM experience has already paid off in Lpezs own company. By openly sharing my challenges with this talented group of students and teachers, I learnt new approaches, which drove me in the direction of a solution; and, a few months later, I had fully and successfully implemented them. The course also opened my eyes to new means of internal communication that have made us stronger as a team. Enrique Lpez, Hasenkamp Relocation Alice Doucy, at Bournes, was the latest of several managers from the company to attend a MiM2 course. We think it is important to show our employees that we are invested in their career development and support them in reaching their potential and they all have seen great benefits, she says. The MiM2 course has helped us improve the professionalism and knowledge of our leadership team, which has had trickle-down benefits across the company. Since my own attendance, I have had great conversations with others in our leadership team about improvements we could make as a result.
