Australian storms hit moving

Severe weather in Australia’s New South Wales and Queensland regions have caused significant disruption to moving and other logistics services over the past few days.

Cyclone Alfred was downgraded to a tropical storm before making landfall near Brisbane on Saturday, but still caused flooding and infrastructure damage across the two regions.

Ray Beard, of Australian Affiliate Nuss Relocations, said: ‘The main port of Brisbane was closed over the weekend, but has reopened today [Tuesday 11 March]. The port is again accepting containers, but the priority is clearing the backlog of containers onto vessels. Customs and biosecurity departments have also reopened and clearances are again taking place. Uplifts and deliveries are happening where local area flooding allows this, but those in badly affected areas are being postponed.’

With the weather now more settled, the company hopes to resume normal operations in the coming days, albeit with some disruptions.

‘Delays should be expected, not only with exports, but also particularly with moving services that touch Queensland and/or northern New South Wales, so client expectations need to be managed accordingly,’ he added.
