Industry partnership to support smart container uptake

A new body – The Smart Container Alliance – has been launched to drive the adoption of smart container technology.

Headquartered in Brussels, the group’s members include businesses specialising in IT solution and asset tracking for the logistics and transport industries, such as Aviem, ORBCOMM, Traxens, Hoopo, Globe Tracker and Nexxiot.

Its aims include boosting the traceability of cargos, strengthening maritime trade, and helping international enforcement bodies to fight criminal activities by the widespread adoption of smart technology.

‘With geopolitical instability and climate disruptions posing risks to global trade, shipping companies must prioritise security and efficiency. The alliance aims to advance industry standards, advocate for policy change, and foster collaboration among technology providers, shipowners, customs authorities, and international regulatory bodies like the EU and World Customs Organisation,’ said the association in a statement.
