Two cargo ships have collided in the North Sea off the coast of Germany, killing at least one sailor.
The accident involved a British-flagged ship, Verity, which sank as a result; and a larger ship, the Bahamas-flagged Polesie, which remained afloat. Two of Verity’s seven crew were rescued, with a body recovered from the water and four still missing.
The Verity was heading from Bremen, Germany, to the port of Immingham in the UK. The Polesie was heading from Hamburg to A Coruña in Spain.
According to reports, the accident happened at around 5am on October 24.
